How to identify a replacement part

Work from the existing component and the equipment’s identification information. Avoid relying on appearance alone.

    Record every part number

    Photograph or copy the complete number, including prefixes, suffixes, spaces and revision marks. A partial number can refer to a different component.

    Identify the equipment

    Record the manufacturer, full model designation and serial or product identification number when available.

    Identify the engine

    For engine-related parts, use the engine nameplate rather than assuming the machine model always has the same engine configuration.

    Compare physical details

    Check mounting points, connector shapes, hose or port positions, rotation, orientation and relevant measurements.

    Read the exact product page

    Compare the description, images, specifications, included items and notices for the exact product before placing the order.

Part number
An identifier assigned to a particular component or product specification.
Serial number
A unique or range-based identifier that can distinguish equipment production details.
Superseded number
An older identifier that may have been replaced by a newer reference; interchangeability still needs verification.
Aftermarket part
A replacement item supplied outside the original equipment manufacturer’s branded supply channel.
Fitment reference
Information used to compare a product with an application; it is not automatically a universal guarantee.
